Workshops/Masterclasses

As your local community theatre, we believe in creating opportunities for you to grow as an artist. Throughout our season, we bring in master teachers and tap into the talent right here in our own community for instruction.

We anticipate classes in improv, acting, vocals, dance, lighting design, sound tech, set/prop design, audition skills, and more. Have an idea or want to teach? Contact us today to join our Artist's Corner database.

The Playwrights' Workshop

The Playwrights' Workshop is RST's free home for new writing — two Saturdays a month, two tracks, one room where plays get read aloud and put on their feet. Led by Robert Grogan, O'Neill National Playwrights Conference semi-finalist. Beginners welcome. Actors and directors welcome. No cost, no auditions, no one turned away.

2nd & 4th Saturdays · 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM · Beginning September 12, 2026 No cost to participate.

This season the Workshop expands into two tracks. Come for one — or stay for both.

10:00 – 11:30 AM | Playwriting 101 New to playwriting, or just getting started? This track builds your craft from the ground up through guided exercises and assignments in structure, character, and dialogue. You'll finish with a completed 10-minute play eligible for consideration in next summer's festival at the theatre. Returning '25–'26 playwrights are welcome and encouraged.

11:30 AM – 1:00 PM | From the Page to the Stage For seasoned playwrights, current participants, and 101 graduates working on longer plays — developed a section at a time, out loud, in the room. Playwriting 101 writers are encouraged to stay and take part as readers and audience.

Actors & Directors Welcome You don't have to write to take part. We're looking for actors to read new work aloud and emerging directors to get hands-on experience staging new pieces in front of a live audience.

To join: complete the interest form at coming soon or email Robert Grogan . Writers can attach a writing sample — it doesn't have to be a play, it just helps Robert see where you're starting from. Actors and directors, no sample needed. Questions welcome. No one is turned away.
